SAN Administrator III

General Summary
Under general direction, responsible for data storage administration to support EMC network storage solutions in both NAS and SAN architectures; supports a mixed Windows and UNIX environment. Provides senior level knowledge/Tier 3 support to customers; responsible for tier 3 infrastructure, design, implementation, troubleshooting, and support. Coordinates multiple projects with primary or secondary responsibility. Provides guidance to junior members of the team. Builds, configures, and administers several data filers and servers; installs, configures and supports Cisco, EMC, Brocade switches, metro clusters, synchronous mirrored clusters and enterprise tape backup management solutions.


Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
1. Designs, configures, and manages multiple EMC storage technologies including the hardware Centera, Claiiron, Symmetrix and the software SRDF, PowerPath, Time Finder, and EMC Control Center; performs installation and upgrades; monitors and reviews logs; applies appropriate storage security measures; designs and implements high availability solutions, and plan data migrations between systems.

2. Provides technical expertise and assistance to team members as required. Recommends and implements technical training requirements for the development of junior staff members.

3. Monitor storage system details within the SAN. Architects and implement efficiency improvements.

4. Work with application development staff to develop or modify SAN architectures, quality assurance policies and procedures, and plan data migrations when necessary.

5. Design and implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery; architecting and supporting D/R planning exercises; supports enterprise backup solution.

6. Supports Cisco Fiber Channel Director-class Switches.

7. Participates in and designs storage requirements from initial project analysis including feasibility studies, proposals, quotations, scope, time line, task list, and duration of projects.

8. Assess and develop long-term strategic goals for SAN in conjunction with data owners and department managers. May be required to assist in budget (operating and capital) estimates, work with support vendors, etc.

9. Perform SAN security audits.

10. Review real-time trending information, and contact Tiered support, when necessary. Maintains regular contact with users and supervisor/manager regarding status of open or pending service calls.


What You Need to Be Successful:

Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, MIS, mathematics or engineering or equivalent work experience. EMC certification in storage design or administration preferred. Additional certifications may be required.

• Seven (7) years storage administration experience, preferably in a healthcare environment. Strong knowledge of UNIX – AIX, Solaris, or HP-UX required.

• Experience architecting, building, and supporting EMC Symmetrix-based storage systems in a team environment, hands-on troubleshooting and tuning experience, project management, and knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Knowledge and ability to support EMC, HP, and IBM based storage hardware and software.

2. Knowledge and ability to supports Cisco and Brocade Fiber Channel Director-class Switches.

3. Demonstrated ability to provide limited leadership role, to be a liaison between escalated support and the EUC team.

4. Excellent communication and organization skills; demonstrates confidence, creativity, and maturity.

5. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work with all levels within the organization.

6. Ability to perform daily work activities of the position assuring prompt and effective response to customer needs.

7. Proficient in analysis and problem solving, ability to work with other team and ability to assess customer needs and determining appropriate solutions.

8. Ability to understand and adhere to systems security and control procedures in accordance with departmental, vendor standards and regulatory bodies.
