The University of Maryland Community Physicians Group is currently seeking a Marketing & Communications Manager for our Corporate location.
***Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, communications or a health related field and 5 years of experience in marketing and communications is REQUIRED. Advertising Agency experience with healthcare accounts is a Plus ***
Under general supervision of the Director of System Physician Marketing and Referral Services and the expertise and resources of the UMMS Marketing and Communications shared service; in collaboration with the University of Maryland Community Medical Group (UM CMG) leadership; develop, plan and implement comprehensive marketing and communications programs for UM CMG. Utilize advertising, public relations, direct marketing, sales and outreach tools to raise awareness, emphasize the strengths and competencies, and encourage consumers and physicians to choose UM CMG. Conduct internal communications campaigns and develop processes and procedures to effectively communicate with executive leadership, physicians and staff who are employed by UM CMG.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
1. Provide marketing and communication leadership to UM CMG. Provide oversight on marketing, public relations, crisis communications, internal communications, web/online and advertising tactics to advance the goals of UM CMG.
2. Develop an annual plan for internal and external marketing and communication. Determine costs, timeline, funding and staffing. Implement the annual plan in collaboration with UMMS Marketing and Communication Shared Services and the executive and regional oversight groups of UM CMG.
3. Manage the marketing and communication budget and provide budget detail on spend for each geographic area and hospital affiliation. In collaboration with UMMS Shared Services, review and select proposals for printing, advertising, events and other marketing activities.
4. Routinely assess customer satisfaction of patients and referring physicians and recommend appropriate marketing and communications responses. Work closely with UMMS physician marketing team to implement strategies to strengthen referral patterns and develop new referral sources.
5. Provide leadership and management of marketing plan initiatives that support UM CMG’s operating plan.
6. In collaboration with UMMS Shared Services, develop news articles and media releases of interest to create a positive reputation and image. Act as spokesperson for UM CMG.
7. Prepare reports and analyze data to illustrate the market position of UM CMG. Using a CRM system, determine the ROI for marketing and communication campaigns.
8. Provide project management of advertising campaigns, collateral materials, interviews, and other creative products, content for the website and other marketing initiatives often requiring the selection of vendors and evaluating contracts.
9. Provide direction and manage all consumer advertising tactics to create and place a variety of promotional advertising.
10. Provide editorial management services as needed for promotional and educational materials including creating concepts, writing brochures and other related materials.
11. Develops and maintains strong service relationships with members of UM CMG and potential referring sources through scheduled site visits, open communication and having a broad knowledge of the physician market.
12. In coordination with the system physician liaisons, develops relationships with referral sources to obtain information relative to strengths and weaknesses of services/providers, therefore supporting volume of referrals. Prepares monthly and quarterly reports and reviews such reports with manager to identify any issues that need to be addressed.
13. Report marketing and communications performance including paid advertising, physician marketing, internal communications, web and digital metrics, earned media, etc. to the UM CMG management team.

What You Need to Be Successful:
1. Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, communications or a health related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
2. Five years of experience in marketing and communications preferred (especially in a physician practice or healthcare setting)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Demonstrated effectiveness in creating and executing marketing and communication plans in a highly complex environment required.
2. High level of proficiency and demonstrated effectiveness in problem solving and implementing new programs related to increased departmental and organizational efficiency.
3. Highly effective oral and written communication skills targeted at both internal and external audiences including outside vendors/ contractors, staff, various supervisory, senior management and administrative staff.
4. Familiarity with the health care industry.
5. Demonstrated creative writing capability required.
6. Demonstrated ability to proofread marketing materials and documents.
